Re: Best war film
As far as battle scenes go The Battle for the Third Castle from Kurosawa's Ran is in a class of it's own. Fantastic soundtrack too (Tōru Takemitsu)

Re: Best war film
Zico, thanks but no it wasn’t that one, this one would’ve been a lot earlier and not so much of a big hit as a bridge too far was.

It’s doing my head in now, trying to remember the name of it!

Can any of you old (as me) farts remember the name of the film I’m on about?

They were all camped in one underground room in a bombed out house IIRC, France possibly.

Re: Best war film
Well you know how it is Cough son one way to get me out of WHO retirement is the mention of a king tiger.... no Orlando fella... just been bored and had a shit load going on in personal life...

Regarding the Bulge.... most relaistic portrayl is Band of Brothers...think its episode 6 and 7 (Bastonge and Foy)

Northern Sold 5:27 Sun Jul 31
Re: Best war film
To be fair the Battle of the Bulge although entertaining is mostly historical horse shit...

President Eisenhower was retired, he denounced the film at a press conference for what he considered such a gross historical inaccuracy.

No mention of the British and Montgomery who was given ownership of the Us and British armies North side of the bulge... anyway Kojak was great with his merchandise

FMOB, soldo is back on the firm, where were you? Bothering Micky Mouse in Orlando?

Yes indeed the Tigers were represented by Pattons

Northern Sold 5:18 Sun Jul 31
Re: Best war film
The King Tigers were US Patton tanks... the Chaffee's were the US tanks...

In the actual battle the most populous tanks so it seems were Panthers and Shermans... well so it seems by the Anthony Beevor book on the Ardenes i'm reading at the moment... King Tigers don't get a mention...

oh and re war Films

Re: Best war film
Battle of the Bulge is pretty good except for the ridiculous display of "Tigers" which were actually American Chaffees

What’s the one called, black and white, soldiers from all different parts of America, trying to attack German points, but generally just about to pull out and retreat?

Re: Best war film
The Tank Museum at Bovington has at least one King Tiger plus a Tiger I and JagdTiger and a JagdPanther

Re: Best war film
It's like using Patton Tanks for King Tigers.

As only less than 500 King Tigers were ever built, can't imagine many of them survived the war, to be correctly cast in war films.

Re: Best war film
As far as British military history goes, That was the fuck up of all fuck ups. The poor bastards that made it got transferred to the Somme and they actually reflected on it as a holiday.
